What is crisis support?

Crisis support is a compassionate and stabilizing response to individuals and/or groups overwhelmed and suffering as a result of tragic event.

What is the goal of crisis support?

The goal of crisis support is to be present and provide stabilizing support to individuals on their worst day.

Crisis support is NOT a substitute for mental health services.  Instead, it is an immediate, short-term response individuals and/or groups in need.

Who provides crisis support?

Crisis support is provided by a team of responders typically associated with an agency / organization (such as emergency responders, schools / universities and more).

What is the cost of maintaining a team?

Since this is a volunteer program, training is often the greatest expense.  And since this is a volunteer program – with liability often the greatest concern – committing dollars to professional training is worth the investment.

Additional expenses may involve additional items such as: “Go-Bags” (we provide during basic training) and other necessary response items.

Finally, depending on scope of your service, travel might be needed.  Depending on the size of the event, overnight stay may be required as well.

Benefits of “in-house” Crisis Team

Ready and Immediate

People in crisis need on-scene, stabilizing support ASAP.  Crisis support teams are trained and organized to mobilize as soon as the call comes in.

Built-in Rapport

Crisis teams consist of vetted and trained employees within the organization.  Trust and rapport is often easier to establish when it’s “your own” people responding.

Cost-Saving

Since team members are volunteers, training is the bulk of costs associated with this program.  However, research shows that a caring, supportive response reduces healthcare costs.
