In his book, Start With Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action, author and leadership expert, Simon Sinek explains that people don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it!
Many times, we want “buy-in” from management and we haven’t even identified why we want it. We’ve identified the “what”, but have neglected the why. The “what” is the program. But the “why” is the reason for the program.
One of my favorite “why’s” was shared by a CFO after our team provided crisis support to her employees following a tragedy. The CFO explained that attitudes and opinions of employees will affect and infect the organization. By investing in your people [through a peer support / crisis response program], you are ensuring positive payouts and reaping rewards that will spread throughout the organization.
