Course Title: Peer Support Basic Training Program

Course Length: 2-day / 16-hours

This course is designed for federal, state and local peers, law enforcement chaplains, clergy, lay-ministers, teachers, medical professionals and other helpers.

Course Description:
This foundational course provides knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) every peer team member needs to extend care and offer hope to those in need.  Through our exclusive six-part protocol, team members learn and practice a model for listening, assessing and addressing anyone, at any time, dealing with any difficulty.

Course Methodologies: Lecture, Demonstration, Scenario-based role play, Videos, Discussion, Group / table exercises

Course Objectives:

  1. Understand definitions, terms and historical context
  2. Learn to provide emotional support that involves listening, exploring and validating
  3. Learn to assess stress reactions and triage critical concerns
  4. Learn to address concerns with intervention techniques and support strategies
  5. Identify resources for referral to next-level care

Evaluation of Learning: Pre-test / post-test, written exam and practical exercise (upon request)
